& Church Musicians in a Global Context

Tehillim's History

2003

Established in 2003 by the compassionate vision of Rev. Dr. Eric Sarwar, the Tehillim School of Church Music & Worship (TSCM) is a creative and cultural ministry dedicated to nurturing young leaders in worship and music studies throughout Pakistan. With a genuine commitment to worship and music education, TSCM aims to equip individuals with the tools they need to inspire and engage their communities through the power of music and worship.

2004

In 2004, the executive board of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan embraced this vision by appointing Dr. Eric Sarwar as the school's director. Under his visionary guidance, the institution has developed a rich environment for church music and worship studies. TSCM provides invaluable resources through training, workshops, seminars, and conferences, ensuring that those who desire to deepen their understanding of worship can find support and growth.

2004-Present

The school organizes various nationwide events, including ecumenical gatherings and music and mission conferences, creating spaces for connection and collaboration. These initiatives also encompass theological education consultations and literary resource development, leading to worship leadership retreats encouraging shared learning and interfaith dialogue. Together, these efforts reflect a commitment to embracing differences and building a vibrant tapestry of faith and creativity throughout Pakistan. Watch a brief video here.

Our Vision

To glorify God, transform lives, and nurture the church in the spirit of ecumenism, both in Pakistan and beyond.

Our Mission

To promote the academic study of worship, ethnomusicology, and missiology within the Muslim context and among the global diaspora.

Our Aims

The local and global impact of TSCM operates on multiple levels. For the past two decades, TSCM has empowered and educated the worship community by providing:

  • Literary and audio/visual resources (including books, podcasts, songs, and online training)
  • Educational opportunities for children and youth through training camps and teaching seminars
  • Engagement for worship leaders and church musicians through in-person and hybrid courses
  • Ecumenical partnerships aimed at training worship pastors and enhancing church music skills
  • Interfaith Psalms Festivals and Conferences dedicated to fostering Muslim-Christian peacemaking.

Looking Forward

Tehillim Resource Centre: For the first five years, the school served in rented places. In 2007, the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) sponsored a grant to purchase a small piece of land to develop a training and resource center in Karachi. The facility has served multiple ministry purposes for the last fifteen years.

In May 2023, the Reformed Church in Hungary (R.C.H.) facilitated securing the generous grant to start the long-awaited extension construction project. Due to the need for a more impactful ministry in Pakistan, the Tehillim Resource Center is expanding the building with a two-floor construction project: three bedrooms to accommodate residential students and guests, a small conference hall, a library with digital equipment, and a kitchen. The new facility will also house the operation of several additional ministries, including Online and in-person seminars for worship leaders, children's ministry programs, and other community outreach services.
